Martorell: La aventura de la creación explores multiple aspects of the work of the
artist who, for more than four decades, has been a mainstay of Puerto Rican cultural life. Because of the attention to detail and thematic thoroughness, this book goes beyond the “coffee table book” genre; this is one of the most important tributes to the work of a Puerto Rican artist ever to be put in book form. Some of the themes examined by Díaz-Royo are the notion of adventure as a driving force behind Martorell’s work, the relationship between his life and his art, the influence of literature on his graphic works, the intervention of space through theatricality and the development of installations, as well as the creative force with wich he responded to the fire that burnt down his homeworkshop.
